3V's of Big Data
3V's of Big Data
Nowadays, businesses are reaching a point where they are handling lots and lots of data, once they have high volumes of data, at a very rapid velocity and besides, with a huge variety of information, they can say they are working with Big Data.
In this article, I will explain what each V's of Big Data consists of.
According to Whishwork, the volume consists of the amount of data generated online, it encompasses the available data that are out there and need to be assessed of relevance. FlyData states that to classify a high volume of data it needs to be above exabytes (1 million TB) or petabytes (1,000 TB). An example of the volume is the amount of data each social media user generates by their constant activity.
Velocity refers to the speed with which data is being generated. For example, all the videos that are being uploaded to YouTube each minute. According to FlyData, once you have a high velocity of information sooner than later you will deal with volume problems and that's not all. you will need the required infrastructure to handle fluctuations of data processed every second, for example, Twitter is very much active during the Super Bowl than any other midnight Tuesday.
Variety refers to all the structured and unstructured data that has the possibility of getting generated either by humans or machines and is all about classifying the data into various categories, according to Whishwork. Structured data is for example; tweets, pictures, and videos and unstructured data will be emails, voicemails, audio recordings, etc.
In conclusion, if you find out that your business is dealing with these 3V's, your solution is to look for scalable approaches that help your business analyze accordingly your data.
